The Forgiveness Project  is a young charitable organisation - with no political or religious affiliations - working at a local, national and international level to promote conflict transformation and restorative practices as alternatives to the endless cycles of violent conflict and crime that are the hallmarks of our time.

Through collecting and sharing personal stories, and delivering educational and self-help programmes, The Forgiveness Project aims to reframe the debate about how individuals and communities can learn to celebrate difference and overcome division, thereby fostering positive social change.

In 18 months, The Forgiveness Project has toured its extremely successful inaugural photographic exhibition, The F Word: Images of Forgiveness, throughout the UK; extended its reach to South Africa, Ireland and America; established an accompanying Speakers Bureau of story protagonists who have inspired a wide range of audiences; and developed workshops and materials serving as a catalyst for innovative approaches to offender rehabilitation in prisons. With our website already used on an ad hoc basis by teachers, by year 3 the charity aims also to be creating stimulating learning opportunities for schools.

The Forgiveness Project does not promote forgiveness but aims to explore the complexity of the subject through individual personal journeys. We do this through the exhibition and speaker's bureau - in other words through the personal journeys of those who have come to a point of forgiveness or those for whom revenge has not worked - but also by working individually and in a group with prisoners through our Journeying Through Conflict programme.  The charity is therefore not just concerned with producing stories and holding public events,
but aims to facilitate the transformative process in an individual. Both elements of The Forgiveness Project bring understanding in the light of extreme circumstances, and are about people learning to live with experiences that sometimes cannot be fixed.
