Summary
Lambeth Mediation Service (LMS) is a local charity based in Streatham Hill. We are looking for a Restorative Approaches co-ordinator to develop and deliver peer mediation and other restorative approaches to schools in the borough of Lambeth. Working with our partners in the borough, the post holder will provide advice and guidance on the most appropriate restorative techniques applicable to schools’ specific circumstances and then plan and execute delivery of the required training. The post holder will be required to work in both primary and secondary schools.

- Experience of delivering peer mediation (E)
- Experience of working with children and young people (E)
- Ability to work on own initiative (E)
- Good personal time management skills (E)
- The ability to work using computers and related technology (E)
- Independence and trustworthiness including a clear check with the Criminal Records Bureau (E)
- Experience of other restorative techniques applicable to schools (D)
- A background in schools/education with the ability to engage at head teacher level (D)
Main Duties
- To make initial contact with schools and help them assess their need for restorative approaches to conflict resolution within their school.
- To develop LMS training materials.
- To deliver training in Peer Mediation and other Restorative Techniques as required.
- To act as a strategic link between LMS and other agencies in the borough working in schools.
- To promote Restorative Approaches to conflict in schools by running Inset sessions and being a point of contact for schools.
- To maintain and develop networks of education professionals in the borough
- To assist schools, after the training stage, to run their own in-school mediation service and to ensure that it is appropriately incorporated into the behavioural policy of the school.
- To communicate progress on schools training on a regular basis, in a verbal and written format.
- To assist schools to set up monitoring systems for project evaluation purposes.
Conditions
The post is initially offered on a one-year contract.
- The postholder will be based at Lambeth Mediation Service’s office and will also be required to work in schools.
- The Schools Restorative Approaches Co-ordinator shall undertake any other duties deemed reasonable by Lambeth Mediation Service.
- The Schools Restorative Approaches Co-ordinator shall pay due care to, and promote the Equal Opportunities codes of practice of partner bodies.
