What is Conflict Resolution?

"Conflict is an intrinsic and inevitable aspect of social change. It is an expression of the heterogeneity of interests, values and beliefs that arise as new formations generated by social change come up against inherited constraints. But the way we deal with conflict is a matter of habit and choice. It is possible to change habitual responses and exercise intelligent choices.”
(Mial, H., Ramsbotham, O. and Woodhouse, T. (1999) ‘Contemporary Conflict Resolution’ Polity Press: Cambridge)

Conflict Resolution is the field of work that helps us to understand these concepts and develops ways in which we can strive to bring about change in our daily lives as well as social change. In general it helps us to understand how and why we get in to conflict and offers possible solutions to dealing with conflict situations, helping us as individuals as well as those around us.
