Welcoming Diversity & Prejudice Reduction Workshops

An introduction to the unique award winning NCBI Welcoming Diversity & Prejudice Reduction Workshop. This experiential workshop begins the process of healing old hurts, by clarifying misinformation and removing the guilt which keeps prejudice and discrimination in place; examines the deep-seated issues that separate and divide communities; teaches how to deal openly with prejudice and stereotyping in ways that are safe, non-threatening and respectful of people as individuals, and empowers individuals through practical hands-on skills to eliminate the harmful effects of institutionalised prejudice. Violence Prevention and Anti-Bullying programmes are also based on this workshop.

Prejudice Reduction Leaders Training

Teaches all the steps for developing and leading the NCBI Prejudice Reduction Workshop. This in-depth training event explores the emotional and institutional impact of discrimination and teaches how to remove the hurt, misinformation and powerlessness which keep prejudice in place. Participants learn to lead the workshops that welcome diversity, to unfreeze prejudicial attitudes and to interrupt oppressive remarks and actions. Specific tools are taught which empower individuals to be constructive allies on behalf of others. In large group classes participants learn replicable hands-on practical skills. Then in small practice groups there is an opportunity to try out these skills with support and encouragement from others.

Leadership Training

Teaches the many skills necessary for providing influential leadership in ending discrimination, reducing inter-group conflict and building multi-group coalitions. Participants learn the skills contained in NCBI’s Welcoming Diversity & Prejudice Reduction workshop and how to lead it in their own organisation. In addition, participants are taught how to handle one-to-one conflict when they are a party to the conflict; how to use the NCBI Controversial Issues Process; change institutions by taking individual leadership initiative and build effective allies with groups of their own. Practical hands-on skills are taught in large group sessions. Then in small practice groups there is an opportunity to practice these skills with support and encouragement from others. Towards the end of the week participants can present their own workplace or organisational dilemmas and receive help from other participants, utilising all the skills from the week of training.
